Buffett's Love Letter to Uncle Sam
Wisdom to all readers, thanks to one nation
Warren Buffett is an incredible writer. For example, he opens his 2024 shareholder letter with this gem about the virtue of clearly presenting complex information: “Our goal is to communicate with you in a manner that we would wish you to use if our positions were reversed—that is, if you were Berkshire’s CEO while I and my family were passive investors, trusting you with our savings.”
The entire shareholder letter is worth reading, but Buffett expressing gratitude for the chance to contribute tax revenues to Uncle Sam is truly delightful.
So thank you, Uncle Sam. Someday your nieces and nephews at Berkshire hope to send you even larger payments than we did in 2024. Spend it wisely. Take care of the many who, for fault of their own, get the short straws in life. They deserve better. And never forget that we need you to maintain a stable currency and that result requires both wisdom and vigilance on your part.
As always, the curious reader stands to gain real wisdom from Buffett’s 2024 letter to shareholders.
